Osina Foods Bitter Leaves dry 100g – Dried bitter leaves for Ofe Onugbu and Ndolé
Bitter leaves (Vernonia amygdalina) form the basis of two of West Africa’s best-known soups: Nigerian Ofe Onugbu and Cameroonian Ndolé. The bitter taste, which lives up to the name, is almost completely removed by thorough washing – what remains is a spicy, aromatic leafy vegetable with character. The dried version has a long shelf life.

Serving suggestion
First soak the dried bitter leaves in warm water, then wash and knead them several times to reduce the bitterness. The more you wash them, the milder the taste becomes. Then add them to the soup and cook them along with the rest. Available from Osina Afro Market in Switzerland.
